What I’m digging

Flag stamps are, like, so outdated, man.

My first adventure to the world of FUN STAMPS happened a few months ago when I discovered these spiffy stamps focusing on Childrens Literature:

I had to buy the stamps online because, even though the post office had posters saying “Look! Look at all the neat stamps you can buy!” they were all out of neat, and only had flags left. Poo. I had quite a good time with these stamps. If I knew you and liked you, you had a carefully chosen stamp. Possibly the Caterpillar, maybe George. If you were/are a Wild Thing – a Wild Thing that makes my heart sing instead of giving me nightmares, your stamp was chosen accordingly. If you were a company demanding money from me now! you got Fredrick. Because, really? Fredrick who? Oh, this Fredrick. Whoop.

A few weeks ago, during the Mail Box Hoo-Ha Disaster of Ot-6, (did I even spell that right? I’ve never written out ‘ot’, or ‘ought’…hmmm) I saw a sign in the post office advertising the Gee’s Bend stamps. And I was thrilled. See for yourself.

Not only are they gorgeous, I love the history behind the quilts and the beautiful women who created them. In fact, I shall frame some.

Look-ee here what else I found (and bought, of course):

More stamps! Pretty stamps! Fun stamps! So, what are you waiting for. Go! Buy! Then send me a letter (so much more fun than e-mail!) to show me what you bought!

don’t get me started on commemorative stamps- i always get the coolest ones–we’ve had everything under the sun! I will tell you when i got married they had just changed the stamp rate- my choices were flags (blechh!) love (they were these hideous frou-frou things) malcolm X (to militant) and hospice care- yes i put hospice care stamps on my wedding invites– it was a matter of priciple!

THIS is what I am working to resist…because, really, what could be cuter than your own kids’ mugs on stamps!?

(The main thing holding me back is that I don’t send more than 8 pieces of mail a year anymore, what with online banking et al! Anything I really do send is a large package, and I can’t put stamps on those anyway!)

Oh my land. Curious George stamps for L ( her favorite EVER!), the Hungry Caterpillar stamps for Boo and Maisy for me. “Mais-eee, Mais-ee, Maisy Maisy Mouse!!!”

Good times. I sense a trip to the post office in my future to see if we have any equally adorable stamps. Although, the only people I mail letters to are Hydro One and Bell Canada. I doubt they would appreciate it!

Those are such fun stamps! I wish things were as fun here, but the closest we get are Christmas stamps – once a year, boo!
